Tofino:
a picturesque pleasant rain-forest experience and is one of Vancouver Island`s `must see` destinations. Wild Pacific surf pounding the wide and sandy beaches, trees that appear to reach the skies and with beautiful mountains that surround the waters of Clayoquot Sound with 270,000 hectares of beaches, islands and ancient rainforests. Tofino has grown from a small fishing village to a popular tourist area with scenic adventure tours available where you can witness Black Bears, Bald Eagles, and other wildlife in their natural rainforest surroundings amongst pristine mountain lakes, streams and waterfalls. Long Beach is renowned as Canada’s surfing region, famous for the longest stretch of surf-swept sand on Vancouver Island`s west coast; this spectacular beach attracts surfers & vacationers from all over the world. Sandy beaches dominate the western side of the peninsula, while the eastern side is more serene and the landscape is dominated by rainforest splendour. Fishing is incredible with nearby rivers and lakes offering great trout fishing. Kayakers will love the Tofino area with numerous inlets and bays offer sheltered paddling, while the more experienced can take to the ocean. Tofino`s docks with local fishermen provide launching points for numerous sea kayaking, whale watching, wildlife, hot springs and cultural tours. Tofino caters to the outdoor adventurer. Sea kayakers will be delighted with the sights and sounds of the waters in Clayoquot Sound. Watch eagles swoop overhead, and if you`re lucky, spot a black bear hunting for food on the shore. You may even cross paths with transient gray whales that live in the area. A variety of world-class accommodations, excellent restaurants specializing in seafood, and plenty of exhilarating activities await visitors. The community can provide opportunities for shopping, visiting craft shops, museum and art galleries and watching the busy harbour. Just moments away, you can sail, cruise or fly to Hot Springs Cove to bask in the natural hot pools and waterfalls. Visitors can also take guided whale watching tours, nature and scenic eco adventures, or guided salmon charters; or perhaps a sailing trip around Meares Island; the more adventurous may want to experience sea kayaking around the islands and bays that dot the west coast of British Columbia. Whale watching is most rewarding during March and April when the whales are migrating from Mexico to the Arctic Ocean. This coincides with the Pacific Rim Whale Festival which also offers a wide range of other activities from crab races to golf tournaments, concerts and plays. Salmon fishing and fly-fishing in Clayoquot Sound are world famous. Take guided charters or rent a custom built fly-fishing boat and explore on your own. Tofino offers a spectacular array of activities many of which will be an experience of a lifetime, truly calms the soul and is the perfect year-round getaway.
